Meet Superintendent Rob Lewis!
- Name: Rob Lewis
- Where are you from and where did you grow up?
- I grew up in Redfield and spent the past 17 years as a building principal in Redfield.
- Describe your high school experience:
- My High School experience was good and what I would call mostly boring. I joined the National Guard during my Junior year and went to basic training the summer before my Senior year. I was involved in a lot of activities: football, wrestling, baseball, class play, journalism, FBLA.
- From where did you graduate college and with what degree(s)?
- I graduated from NSU with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a PE major and athletic training / coaching / recreation minors. I also graduated from USD with a Masters of Arts in Educational Administration and my Superintendent endorsement.
- What do you teach/coach/lead at Northwestern?
- I am the Superintendent.
- How long have you been here?
- This is my first year in the district
- When did you realize you wanted to become a teacher?
- I was able to be a teacher aide for the PE teacher when I was in high school. I have always enjoyed working and coaching kids.
- What is rewarding about your job?
- Working with kids and watching them grow as learners, athletes and most importantly people.
- If you could have any other job what would it be?
- A pilot so I could fly.
- Who is your biggest role model?
- My biggest role model growing up was my grandfathers and my dad.
- What are your hobbies?
- My hobbies right now revolve around my kids and family. I coach almost all their activities. I also enjoy golfing and most sports. I am a huge Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Chargers fan.
- Where do you see yourself in ten years?
- Working with kids and enjoying my own adult children.
- If you could live anywhere else, where?
- In a place where I could have season tickets to a pro sports team or close to Disney World because it is the “happiest place on earth”.
- What type of music do you listen to?
- Sport talk radio in the car. If I am listening to music it is usually a Disney playlist on Apple Music or Kids Bop because then I know all the lyrics are appropriate.
- What food is like a guilty pleasure to you?
- Hamburgers and dill pickle chips.
- Last book you read?
- Education / Leadership related – Move Your Bus by Ron Clark
- For enjoyment – The Stranger in the Lifeboat by Mitch Album
- Who would play the lead in a movie about your life?
- Drew Carey because we both used to have flat tops.
- What super power do you wish you had?
- Either the ability to fly or be invisible.
- Biggest pet peeve?
- People being negative and NOT kind.
- What advice do you have for the students of Northwestern?
- Be kind, be positive, be a leader.
