Jostens named Northwestern High School's journalism class a 2023 National Yearbook Program of Excellence. The award recognizes engaging yearbooks that reflect a broad representation of the student body while helping students develop 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, and information and communication technologies literacy.

Northwestern achieved the award for creating an inclusive yearbook, generating school engagement, and successfully managing the yearbook creation process.

The Northwestern journalism class taught by Mrs. Nora Groft consists of ten students: sophomores Murphy Lewis, Kyara Ratigan, Jensyn Siebrecht, and Tristan Nickeson, juniors Payton Grandpre and Nikki Nickeson, and seniors Dawson Ward, Lincoln Woodring, Dustin Dirksen, and Jacob Leinen. 

In addition to creating the yearbook, the students also manage the school website, Instagram, X (formerly known as Twitter), Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube channels in addition creating to the E-Newsletter, running the live stream, and operating the drone.
