Northwestern School Construction Project Update

By Jensyn Siebrecht

The construction project at Northwestern School really picked up momentum at the end of the last school year, and things are really moving along.

Along with building a brand-new gym, the middle school and high school area has experienced an update with new lights, flooring, and paint.

“I like the carpet! I think it looks nicer in here. I like how they repainted it because it makes it look more positive instead of all gloomy walls and stuff,” senior Tyanne Osterkamp said.

With this new remodel, the band room has also experienced a huge transformation, creating bigger space by utilizing the preschool room, practice rooms, and office areas as the band area. With the old preschool room turning into practice rooms and an office area, the old shop has turned into the new preschool room, which has allowed the room to be in the elementary part of the school.

Since the old shop was turned into a preschool room, the small gym has transformed into a new agriculture/FFA room and shop area, giving students more room and opportunities to work on different projects. Right now, they are hopeful that that remodel will be done by the end of September.

“I’m excited for the new gym. I just wish it’ll hurry up and (Mrs. Noelle) Swanson’s shop because I want to get back in there,” Osterkamp said.

Lately the construction of the new gym has been delayed as they wait for the cement in the gym to be cured so that the wood floor can be installed.

Inside the area of the new gym there will be two locker rooms, two coaches’ rooms, an official’s room, and large concessions stand and lobby area.

A new fitness room will allow community members to purchase a membership to it. Right now, the hope is for the new gym to be done by the end of October.

While during this construction, students have been getting excited about the changes being made to Northwestern School and growing impatient to use the new facilities.

“I feel like it’s going to be a good addition to the school, might bring more people to our school. I just kind of wish it’ll get done faster,” sophomore Wyatt Rahm said.
