Name: Doug Duncan

  • Where are you from and where did you grow up? Born in Warren, Michigan. Raised in Jacksonburg, Ohio, and Wakonda, Claremont, and Groton, SD.
  • Describe your high school experience: I was a quiet nerd. Got good grades, loved music activities, and worked at DQ.
  • From where did you graduate college and with what degree(s)? Associate of Arts in Christian Education from Nebraska Christian College and a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from NSU.
  • What do you teach/coach/lead at Northwestern? I am a Paraprofessional in the elementary and I coach football.
  • How long have you been here? I was at Northwestern from 2001-2021 and returned this fall.
  • When did you realize you wanted to become a teacher? It probably started in 2nd grade with Mrs. Lawrence and continued with Mr. Gibson, Mr. Osborne, Mr. Locken, and Mr. Tobias Rath. Then in high school I worked as a Bible Club teacher and camp counselor. People would PAY ME to do what I loved to do! I’m IN!!!
  • What is rewarding about your job? Recess Duty! (and when a kid “gets it”. I love that!)
  • If you could have any other job what would it be? Camp director
  • Who is your biggest role model? Bill and Jana Duncan, my parents
  • What are your hobbies? Crosswords, Jigsaw Puzzles, watching sports, LEGOs
  • Where do you see yourself in ten years? With my girl Amy. Beyond that, who cares?
  • If you could live anywhere else, where? Byron Bible Camp
  • What type of music do you listen to? Christian Music (Andrew Peterson, Switchfoot, Rend Collective, NEEDTOBREATHE), Movie Soundtracks, Classical
  • What food is like a guilty pleasure to you? Cookies, especially if Amy or my granddaughter makes them
  • Last book you read? Jesus Behaving Badly
  • Who would play the lead in a movie about your life? Andy Serkis
  • What super power do you wish you had? Selflessness
  • Biggest pet peeve? Me doing what I don’t want other people doing. I hate when I’m a hypocrite.
  • What advice do you have for the students of Northwestern? Stay off social media. Build REAL relationships with the people you are with.
